Printed on handmade textured paper, this handsome book is bound in greyish linen with the title inset into the front board in persimmon-colored leather. It is housed in a matching linen-covered clamshell box lined in beige suede with a matching persimmon leather label on the spine. The book has been signed by both Ashbery and Freilicher. Although the story was originally published in 1835 in a magazine, subsequently Pushkin made a number of corrections which were never made until this correct publication as a book. The stunning illustrations are by V. Konashevich. The brightly colored cover is quite quite good although lightly soiled, but the spine, which is very fragile, is damaged with about an inch missing at the bottom.
